How
do I know if my child is qualified to attend Eureka?
Students
at Eureka need not have a certain IQ or a documented learning disability
to attend. In fact, no child will be excluded on the basis of test scores.
However, we do require assessment for initial enrollment and use testing
information to plan a child's individual program. At this time we are
not accepting children with severe or untreated mental health disorders
that have resulted in physically aggressive behavior. For these children,
please contact the Center for Educational Enrichment for other options.

the Brideun Learning Model?.
What testing is required?
Your child must have taken the Wechsler Intelligence
Scale within the past three years and had standardized academic achievement
testing within one year of admission. Cognitive and academic testing must
have been performed by a qualified clinician.
What is the Enrollment Process?
We encourage you to start your enrollment process with
a visit to the school. Our staff will meet with you individually to provide
a school tour and answer any questions you may have.
Once
you feel that the school may be a good option for your child, we ask that
you complete an application,
pay the $25 application fee, and schedule a time for your child to visit
the school as a shadow student. The shadow process gives us an opportunity
to get to know your child and determine if placement is appropriate.
Once
the shadow process is complete, our team will review your child's records
and determine acceptance or rejection based on the records and the feedback
from this visit. Following this process, we will share our decision,
and if appropriate, offer you our contract for placement. In some
instances, the contract will be withheld pending available openings. Student
contracts for the following year are given to enrolled students first,
then offered to newly accepted students on a first-come-first-served basis.
After
the contract is signed, various other opportunities to visit the school
and meet students and their families will be available to help students
with their transition to Eureka. Students can also apply
for part-time or unit based enrollment. For information about these options
please speak directly to the program coordinator.
What is your class size, and what grades do you teach?
Students are grouped in multi-age learning communities
with a 1-to-8 staff to student ratio. Eureka offers placement for students
in 1st through 9th grades, although academic skills through high
school can usually be accommodated. Students are not "forced" to
graduate from our program, but leave when they are ready to face the challenges
of a more traditional school setting.
What is Eureka's Tuition?
Eureka is a tuition-driven program, with an elastic
tuition pricing. Families pay between $17,000 and $25,000 to attend Eureka,
although the majority of families pay around $18,000. Our tuition covers
Eureka's successful program, which includes our integrated therapies,
special education services and stimulating academics. Please contact Eureka's
business manager for
further information.
Can students attend Eureka part time?
Students may attend part-time as a means of transitioning
into or out of our school, or to supplement an existing program. Part-time
tuition is $15 - $20/hour depending on enrollment.
Are there other requirements?
Eureka is a Brideun Learning
Community, and thus is cooperatively governed by parents, teachers
and others with an interest in its success. Eureka requires the expertise
and support of our parents as volunteers and therefore, highly encourages
involvement. Parent contributions may take any form of support to the
school. The Brideun Learning Communities upholds the philosophy
that children learn best when their parents and family are active in their
educational process.
What deadlines do I need to be aware of?
Eureka will accept enrollments, in the order received,
until we reach our capacity of 24 students. We will then form a waiting
list. Although we have no deadlines, we are filling up fast! Students
returning to Eureka for a second or subsequent year must commit by mid-March,
so newly accepted applicants can begin to sign contracts on or after the
15th of March.
